how do I prepare for my wax?

Here are some tips and guidelines for your waxing appointment:

  • The ideal length for waxing is ¼ of an inch/length of an eyelash or a grain of rice. For all you shavers, wait 3 weeks from the day you shaved before coming in for any waxing.

  • Take a warm shower before your appointment to help open pores. Skip the gels, lotions, and oils the day of your appointment.

  • Avoid sun exposure, saunas and working out before coming in for your appointment.

  • Although we strive for less pain, some like to take an Advil/Ibuprofen 30 minutes before their appointment.

  • Wear loose, comfy clothing to your appointment (avoids rubbing or friction post waxing).

  • Ladies, your skin is often more sensitive around your cycle. The ideal time to come in for waxing is 5-14 days AFTER your cycle is done.

That being said, we will still wax you while you are on your period. You must come wearing a tampon or menstrual cup to your appointment.

what should I do 24 to 48 hours after my wax?

We make sure that your wax hurts as little as possible. You just have to make sure you take care of it to minimize the pain. Here’s some tips to help you.

  • Help yourself to witch hazel, after wax oil, and tea tree lotion we have for you. Witch hazel is a natural anti-inflammatory and excellent for healing. After wax oil helps to remove any residue wax sometimes leave on the skin. Tea tree lotion provides antibacterial benefits to the skin, soothes, and hydrates.

  • Avoid steam rooms, saunas, sun exposure, chlorine pools and exercising (this includes sexual intercourse too!) in the first 24-48 hours.

  • Wear loose, comfy clothing to allow for your skin to breathe.

  • You can still shower- just don’t make that water lobster hot! Keep the waxed area clean, but do not use heavily scented body washes, creams OR exfoliate the area for 48 hours.

  • TIP: Apply original Polysporin at night time, starting the day after your wax, for the first 2-3 days. Apply to the more sensitive areas (women: labia, men: scrotum and shaft) to promote healing.

what should I do in between appointments?

Care in between appointments is the key to ensuring your hair grows back with minimal ingrowns and issues.

  • We recommend never shaving or tweezing in between appointments. This will only throw off your natural hair regrowth and cause either discomfort in your next appointment or not being able to remove all hair.

  • After you 3rd (or possible 4th!) appointment all your hair will be synced. How well you do at preparing the skin before the wax and taking care of the skin between your treatments will also affect your waxing service and results.

  • Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! Wait TWO full days after waxing before you exfoliate, this is to reduce and eliminate ingrown hairs. You can use an exfoliating glove, brush, scrub (whether you buy or make it yourself), or PFB Vanish roll on ($6 for a mini one in store and a perfect travel size).

  • Exfoliate in a circular pattern towards your face to get underneath the hair at 2-3 times per week.

  • Moisturize daily to keep the skin and hair soft.

  • Also, don’t come back TOO soon (it’s nothing personal!) but give time for all the hairs to grow in. Otherwise, you will have multiple hair cycles happening because some hairs are too short. Come back to see us in 4-6 weeks.

should I look out for medical concerns?

If you are on Accutane (as well as other acne medications) you cannot receive waxing services. These medications and ingredients often thin the skin and can cause skin loss if waxed. Please wait 12 months after completing these medications before coming in for any waxing.

If you are using Retinol/AHA’s, you must stop using the product minimum 7-10 days before coming in for any waxing.

random facts:
